Match fitness can be applied to any kind of competition including a weightlifting comp. Training with the same people in the same environment even with great programming will only get you so far.
Exposure to other athletes will give you a real gauge on where you are and what you need to do to improve. This is why its important to realize that match fitness is not just a physical element, it is at the very least 90% mental. Therefore exposure to competition no matter what level you think you are can only be a good thing if you walk in with the right attitude.
Having the ability to focus on what you are good at when lifting or playing sport is essential to perform at your best, but the ability to learn from others whilst maintaining whats important to you can only help.
